Questions We Hear From Sauna Buyers
Most home buyers find a 2-3 person sauna works well for personal use and fits comfortably in a spare room, basement, or outdoor structure with standard ceiling heights. If you plan to share the experience regularly, stepping up to a larger capacity gives everyone room to stretch out on the benches. Measure your available floor space and account for a small clearance around the unit before deciding.
Wood species plays a meaningful role in both the feel and longevity of your sauna. Canadian Red Cedar is a popular choice because it is naturally resistant to moisture, produces very little resin when heated, and develops a warm, aromatic quality over time that adds to the overall ritual. The wood you choose will influence how the sauna ages and how it responds to repeated heating cycles.
Heater output is typically matched to the interior volume of the sauna cabin, and electric heaters in the range of 6-9kW are well suited to most residential 2-6 person rooms. A correctly sized heater reaches target temperatures efficiently and holds them steadily throughout your session. Our product listings include heater specifications so you can match output to the room size you are working with.

About Our Traditional Saunas
Traditional saunas have been a cornerstone of heat wellness for centuries, and for good reason. Built around high-temperature dry heat generated by an electric or wood-burning heater and measured humidity introduced by pouring water over hot stones, a traditional sauna creates an environment that encourages deep relaxation and a genuine sense of restoration after demanding days. They are built for homeowners who want a lasting, authentic experience rather than a trend — people who value craftsmanship, natural materials, and a ritual they can return to daily. When choosing a traditional sauna, consider the interior capacity and how many people will use it regularly, the wood species and its resistance to long-term moisture exposure, heater output relative to room volume, and the quality of the bench construction and door sealing. A well-built traditional sauna, properly sized and positioned in your home, becomes one of the most-used and most-valued spaces in the house. At Vital Light Co, every sauna we carry is selected for material integrity, build quality, and the kind of heat performance that makes the ritual worth returning to.
